Chaat is a type of mouth watering and popular roadside snack all over India, sold by street hawker. These days there are specialized ‘chaat’ shops and in Delhi Haldriram’s Chaat is really famous. For those of you not familiar with the term, chaat in India refers to all kinds of snack or fast food items that a popular street food with a mingling taste of spicy, sweet, sour, soft, salty and crunchy. For chaat preparation a variety of pre-prepared ready to use ingredients are mixed together just prior to consumption. The original Chaat is a mixture of potato pieces, crispy fried bread, gram bean and spices. Other popular chaat varieties are Pani Puri (also known as Golgappe), Chana Cutlet, Dahi Puri, Fruit Chaat, Bhel Puri etc are just a few mentions. The common elements for preparing the Chaats are Yoghurt or dahi, chopped onion, coriander, sev (small dried yellow noodles) and Chaat masala.
Today I am preparing Potato pomegranate Chaat
4 boiled Potato
1 cup peanuts
1 cup Sev (you can find this in Indian store)
1/2 cup Green chutney(Spicy)
3 tbsp fresh lime juice
1-2 tbsp chaat masala (easily available in Indian store)
2-3 finely chopped green chilies
1 cup pomegranate
1/2 finely chopped red onion
few mint leaves
Cut the potatoes into cubes and put it in a mixing bowl. Add onion , roasted peanuts, green chutney, green chilli, salt, pomegranate, chaat masala, lime juice, salt and mix it well.Add few chopped cilantro and mint leaves if available and mix it again. Garnish it with Sev.
